Lesbian pregnancy options for same-sex female couples

At Buffalo IVF, we are proud to be able to offer top quality fertility services to lesbian & same-sex female couple. There are two primary treatment options for lesbian couples that would like to get pregnant:
1. Intrauterine insemination (IUI), or artificial insemination, using donor sperm
2. In vitro fertilization (IVF) using donor sperm

Reciprocal IVF treatment for lesbian couples

Lesbian couples may choose to use the eggs from one partner to produce embryos that are then transferred to the uterus of the other partner to carry the pregnancy. During reciprocal IVF, one partner undergoes ovarian stimulation and egg retrieval. The embryo is then transferred into her partner’s uterus that has been synchronized with her partner’s cycle.
Reciprocal IVF offers a unique opportunity for lesbian couples in their family-building journey. This method allows one partner to provide the egg while the other carries the baby, enabling both women to have a biological and participatory role in the conception and birth of their child.

Fertility treatment for gay couples/same-sex male couples

Gay men planning to build a family through fertility treatments will meet with their physician to discuss the details of using an egg donor and gestational carrier to achieve pregnancy via in vitro fertilization (IVF). The partner wishing to use his sperm will undergo testing.

Egg donors may be an individual known to the couple or anonymous eggs selected from an egg bank. Buffalo IVF partners with gestational carrier agencies and attorneys to help identify gestational carriers if the couple does not have an individual selected to serve this role.

Fertility treatment for trans men, trans women & transgender couples

Buffalo IVF is proud to help transgender and gender non-conforming members of the LGBTQ+ community who are interested in becoming parents or growing their families.

Fertility preservation

Prior to gender-affirming hormone and/or surgical treatments, speak to your physician about freezing your sperm or eggs before undergoing any treatment that may affect your fertility.

Trans family building

Trans men and trans women must typically discontinue hormone therapy before embarking on reproduction. After discontinuation, the time needed to return to fertility is variable, and in some cases may be irreversible. We will help guide you through the appropriate evaluation and time frame for your circumstances. The various courses of treatments available vary depending on the individual situation, and could require egg or sperm donation, or a gestational carrier.

Fertility treatment options for trans women

For trans women, options include sperm cryopreservation (freezing) or usage via intrauterine insemination (IUI) of a cisgender female partner. In vitro fertilization (IVF) may also be recommended using partner or donor eggs or sperm and/or the partner’s uterus or gestational carrier.

Fertility treatment options for trans men

For trans men, fertility options include egg and/or embryo freezing (cryopreservation), using his partner’s sperm or donor sperm. Trans men may undergo IUI using partner or donor sperm or may require IVF using his own, a partner’s, or donor eggs. Embryos may be transferred into his own uterus, his partner’s uterus or into a gestational carrier.
