our story

My husband and I began trying to grow our family in 2018, but my cycles were
unpredictable after years on birth control. My OBGYN quickly referred us to a fertility clinic.
I made appointments at both local options, but after meeting Dr. Sullivan at BIVF, I knew we
were in the right place.
We started with testing and timed cycles, assuming the issue was mine. When we prepared
for IUI, my husband finally did a sperm analysis, and we were devastated to learn that it
was unlikely we could use his sperm. A TESA procedure through WNY Urology was
unsuccessful, so we moved forward with donor sperm. We completed six or seven IUIs
without success.
We were waiting for insurance coverage of IVF to begin in May 2020, and tried one last IUI in
March just as the world shut down—it didn’t work. Once BIVF was operating normally
again, we restarted. On a whim, I asked for another sperm analysis for my husband. To
everyone’s surprise, the results were excellent. No one could explain it, but it gave us hope.
We proceeded with an egg retrieval and used my husband’s sample. In December 2020, we
transferred one embryo and became pregnant with our son. We had six embryos left and
returned in August 2023 to try again. At my initial testing, a pregnancy test came back
positive with very low numbers, but it was not viable. Follow-up testing showed retained
tissue that had to be removed.
We did two more transfers, both resulting in pregnancies, but neither lasted. After a D&C
and several self-pay cycles, I wasn’t ready to give up. We tried one more IUI, and this time it
worked. Our beautiful baby girl is here, and we are so grateful.
Through every stage, the care and attention we received at BIVF was incredible. I always felt
supported and in constant communication with the nurses and doctors. I saw all three
physicians, and no matter who I met with, they knew my chart and my story.
Our journey was bumpy, but BIVF gave me my babies, and I will forever be thankful. On a
joyful note, we also donated our remaining donor sperm to a friend, and she now has a
healthy baby boy thanks to BIVF as well.
